Since we've gone noncommerical (thanks BBC!) do we need such a huge ad banner across the top of every page?
Between my browser's buttons and the ad banner, I've lost roughly a third of the screen. This means I've got to do a lot of scrolling, especially when editing long entries.
Just a thought...

Hmm... y'no what might be cool.... a show/hide button for everything at the top of the alabaster skin (BBC Online stuff, banner, browse/search bar, buttons bar)? then we could turn it off while using the site and only let it pop up when we need something on it.
*Peregrin is happily using this page to suggest all his ideas for the site*

Although nothing is definite, the chances are the banner will go, we'll gain more space, and we'll be able to put some proper branding at the top of the page. But nothing is concrete yet - that's what this Talking Point is all about!

Cool! Sounds good to me. So many community websites have banners splashed all over them that I bet it would be a drawing point for potential researchers to find no advertising
