Crawlty?

How can they crawl if they have no legs? They're round, and they can roll perfectly well (which seems to me to be a marvelously relaxed form of transportation), but I can't really see how any crawling would take place.
Am I wrong? Am I just being y and pedantic?

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
