What if Christanity never came to England?

Would we all still be pagan? Would we have of developed this far? What do you think the world would be like?

Well my first thought is - we'd all be a hell of a lot better off. But then I am faced with a question I'm still debating with myself - does the amount of good that has come out of Christianity at the grass roots level outweigh the dogma and bigotry involved with the 'industry' of Christianity? I realise I've just answered a queston with another question but I am still undecided on this issue!

Well, no doubt we'd all be better off, first off there would be all these nice parks for people and their doggies, instead of all those basillicas cluttering up things. Also we wouldn't all be going around with massive guilt complexes. The Beatle's would've written a few less songs.

I have obviously missed something - the organised religion which goes under the name of Christianity may have come to Britain but how do we know that this is what Christ preached? What if Christianity is not an accurate reflection of Christ's teachings?

what if Christs teachings did come to Britain and those in power twisted them to suit their own ends and called it Christianity???

While we're all practicing hearsay...and what ifs...what if there was no christ, or no actual teachings? we'd all possibly be pagan, but we'd be better off for it, definately a lot happier...has religion taught enough good and comforted enough souls to make up for the chaos and pain it has caused through countless wars, etc.? All I can seem to receive from it is guilt...

TBH i don't think it would make an enormous amount of difference. Monotheistic religions spring up in populated areas like shrooms in a november cowfield. Maybe i've read dawkins a little overenthusiastically but I've always seen them as rather conveniently viral. Why are there no monotheist religions with a god indifferent to your belief in him? and which don't threaten you with a nasty burning eternity for incomplicity?
