Were your priorities in order? I was taught that the order of priorities was: shelter, water, fire, food.
People die of exposure quite quickly in some circumstances, so building a debris shelter could save your life. The poor lass who died on Mount Kinabalu recently died of exposure, after walking in circles - did you know that people naturally walk in circles without a frame of reference as we all have a dominant leg! The trick to walking in straight lines is to line things up ahead of you.
Water next, then fire to provide warmth, sterlize water and attract help, followed by food (although if food comes your way when sorting out the rest, take your opportunities).

Hi!
I thought I'd pop by to say that you've been nominated for AGG/GAG - a group of researchers looking for cool entries in the Unedited Guide, to feature in a weekly entry for the Post. Anywho, our homepage is here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/U187783
Please come by and chat to us - or talk here if you like - we're eager to help! For example, if you'd like someone to have a quick run through your entry for typos and such, or if you'd like it not to be featured till you've finished it - or anything else - just say!
Thanks!
-Lucinda
