My first bit of advice would be have a look at this link http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/hitchhikers/gamehints.shtml
which has some game hints, or have a look at the messageboard at http://www.bbc.co.uk/cgi-perl/h2/h2.cgi?state=threads&board=radio4.hitchhiker& where the game is discussed 
There are some 'walk throughs' available on the net but that spoils the fun
