Hands up if you enjoyed school!
How can teachers ensure that children are literate and numerate, and still have an enjoyable time?
Suggestions please from anyone.
I'm a teacher, and am perplexed by the welter of new initiatives. I agreed with 'sunny Jim Callaghan' about the 3Rs but am not sure that he would necessarily think that the situation has greatly improved.
Across the world there are many different education systems. How do we teach children the basics without having to 'drum in' information and endlessly test the children?
In some countries, children only start school aged 6 (or even 7) yet in England there is baseline testing for Reception children.
Children are getting stressed about exams. Others feel they are failures. I never advocated the 11-plus (equal misery) but surely there is a 'third way'?
I'd appreciate your views.
Many thanks.
