I'd rarely read a book in my life that marked me as much and
which accompanied me my whole life. I read the Hitchhiker's
guide the 1st time when I was 15 and since then I read all
the books once a year.
It helped me to destress while studying, it makes me laugh
when I am sad.
It is fabulous what Douglas Adams created and I am sure that he will be in our minds forever.
My heartfelt sympathy for the family and friends.
Truly sad.

I can only echo Claudia's comments. I came to Mr Adams at the onset via Radio 4 in the late 70's and subsequently read the books etc.
I still play my BBC cassettes in the car to while away the miles and every joke and comment is brand new.
I can always find a new translation of his Book's messages to suit my current situation and I will miss him greatly.
RIP Doug.

I feel exactly the same way. I too started reading the books because I was into Dr. Who, and someone bought me the Hitchhikers Guide thinking it was Dr. Who.
I just found out that Mr. Adams passed away. That's sad, but I know there will be some good books waiting in heaven should I be so lucky as to get there.
My Condolences to all the family.

It is truly sad that Mr. Adams has passed on. In fact, I I saw a reference to him in a daily comic called "Get Fuzzy" just a few days ago, I can't quite recall exactly which day, but they didn't say ANYTHING, there was just a man in the comic strip with a t-shirt on that said 6 x 9 = 42. I recognized it right away, and realized then how much of an effect Mr. Adams had on my life.
It is sad to see him go, and hard to believe that he will not be working on some new project or writing another book for his loyal fans.
I hope that, since I didn't get the privelage of meeting him in this life, I get the privelage of meeting him in the next.

I first came across "The Restaraunt at the End of the Universe" just three or four years ago, but since then it and the rest of the five-thirds of a trilogy has been a mainstay of my sanity. I can't remember how I could stand life without 42... or Dirk Gently... or the Starship Titanic. His death was a tragic shock for all of us.
