This has the makings of a great Entry.
Just a few nitpicks to sort out first
<> should be 30 metres and is there a measurement equivalent?
Color should be spelt colour
<> should be <>
<> should be written as follows <>
The header 'Use of The Wood' should be 'Use of the Wood'.
What does BTU stand for?
You have written Texas and However without a gap.
Is 'leaflets' the right word in this sentence <>?
<> I believe that the first letter of this word should be capitalised
<> What does this stand for?

Gnomon - time to move on Posted Mar 23, 2009
"centuries" should not be capitalised.
A530605 - Shagbark
AlexAshman Posted Mar 23, 2009
Yep, 'century' is only capitalised in specific instances, eg 'the 21st Century'.

Curious that America should still rate their Air conditioners and Furnaces as well as thermal output from logs in 'British Thermal Units' abbreviated BTU. If a stack of logs 1 Meter Deep, 1 meter High, Two Meters Long, is used in a fireplace some winter. How do Brits describe the energy those burning logs transmit?

Or should this be expressed as Joules per Cubic meter?
A530605 - Shagbark
shagbark Posted Mar 23, 2009
Note it will not be expressed as joules per KG as wood is not sold by weight but by volume.

in reference to post#4 I copied this from a dictionary
leaf·let (lflt)
noun.
1. One of the segments of a compound leaf.
2. A small leaf or leaflike part.
3. A printed, usually folded handbill or flier intended for free distribution.
In botany this is the correct term.

>>These trees grow from the St. Lawrence Seaway to central Texas. However they appear to prefer rocky soil, showing up on many steep mountain slopes- particularly those facing East or North, but not growing on the coastal plain near the Gulf of Mexico.<<
I take it these trees only grow in North America, then? (Natively, that is.) If so, it would be worth mentioning

Hi Shagbark
Just a couple of thoughts.
I think this whole piece would scan a little better with a little rearrangement of the sections into a more ‘natural’ order. They would follow on from one another better if arranged thusly:
(Your intro)
Physical Appearance
Geographical Distribution
Use of the Wood
Hickory Milk
Watch Out
I also think that the details relating to the nuts in the opening para would do better kept together with those in the Hickory Milk section, bringing together the uses for the nuts.
As this is a fairly compact piece, it doesn’t need shortening by the use of footnotes. I think that at least ’ Footnote 1’ could usefully be included in the main text.

27 March, I reorganized this article. That may have introduced some grammatical or spelling issues that have escaped my notice.
