(1*2+1)*7+9+(6+6)
I have tried to keep it simple, and keep all my nuber positive, could have used more brackets, but what the hell.
Any other suggestions?

Looks like I broke H2G2 there for a moment...
Well done, consider yourself Mythed...
You could also try (1/2)x(1^7)x(9!/(6!x6) = 42

Some alternatives are:
1+2+1-7+9+6*6
121-79+6-6
(1+2)*17-9+6-6
(1-2*1-7+9+6)*6
12+(1+7)*(9-6)+6

Potholer... Does your name not suggest you are conspiring against yourself?

It was *really* meant as a wind-up for a particular person, but it isn't *necessarily* self-contradictory. I suspect they probably didn't see the irony.

Ahhh... I thought - if your name was a true reflection, then you would have to be one of the conspiracy nuts, conspiring against yourself...
But I guess you got that!

Wow I am Mythed, thanks Argon0.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I like your first one Potholer nice and elegant.
As to conspiracy, I'm not paranoid, I know everyone is out to get me.
By the way Potholer, watch out for the steps, the first ones a bugger.
