I started with Rogue on the Spectrum, then played around with Moria on the Amiga. Finally I settled on Zelany Angband ('Zangband') which has a pleasing number of extras (lots of classes and races, surface world to explore lots of new items and monsters and vaults etc).
What is everyone elses fave variant?

I use the Zangband variant and love the extra races and classes. Even the dungeon looks a bit different with trees underground. There are even extra towns if you wander in the wilderness long enough.
