Who is this God person anyway? (A look at the Modern God)

God is beleived to have come from many different sources. Judaism, for example, beleive that God was seen by people like Moses, and that we should all follow the ten commandments he brought down from heaven (although some people believe he brought a big bunch of them down).
Christianity follows on from Judaism, but beleives Jesus to be the son of God, who came down from heaven to save us all, and that all his teachings should be kept. Their own teachings are therefore not the same as Judaism.
Muslims beleive God to be called Allah, and that a man called Muhhammad (might not be spelt right) had an angel of Allah come to him in a cave and tell him what to do. After the prophet died, the Muslims went on a crusade and captured a large part of the globe that wasn't really expecting this.
Hinuism beleive there must some kind of almighty God, but they are unaware of who he is, so they beleive in several Gods, each with a different purpose.
Sikhism beleives in a God, although they claim they haven't really seen him. They beleive in the tales of their Gurus, who spread peace to all during their time on Earth, who were eventually replaced by a book (like the Bible, etc) called a Guru, and also must be called Gurus accordingly and be treated like the living men it replaced (such as its own room, etc).
So whoever God is, and whatever his purpose for us is, and if he even exists, is still unknown. It's true that science has taught us that things we believed were related to God are now not so likely, but some believe that there must some almighty God that we all came from, but who he is, and what his purpose for us and mankind is, we just don't know.
