"You should reply to the moderation email you receive."

Well, I checked my preferences, and all seems ok, but I didn't get an email about my one, tiny, miniscule, barely noticeable foreign word: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/classic/FFM19585?thread=100569&skip=5120&show=20#p2272665

The 'offending' word turns out to mean 'mouth wide open' (see my later post).

This moderation FAQ is out of date. I pointed this out to the powers that be in this thread: F63593?thread=197962 . They declined to make the change.

To clarify, if content is left permanently referred, but neither failed nor edited, there is precisely no official process you can follow to challenge the decision or request more information on it.

F77636?thread=192242&latest=1 (post 49) explains the reason why there is no feedback service in this case.

Hi Kaeori,

The Moderators see the Postings in time order, not in the thread, so they had to make a decision on it straight away. This meant that as the Moderator who saw it couldn't understand it, it was referred. The Moderator wouldn't have been able to read the translation if it was in a different Posting.

When a Posting has been referred, emails aren't sent because it hasn't been failed.

It was the decision of the Community that non-English language Postings were referred, so I'm afraid that it will be hidden until it can be translated. As we can't pick out individual Postings from the queue, it could be some time.

Thanks Mina.

Our monumental British English thread (recently sailed past the 5000 posting mark!) is full of word derivations and foreign language examples and comparisons.

It would perhaps be helpful if the regular contributors and the h2g2 staff could together work out a way to avoid potential moderation problems, whilst respecting h2g2 house rules *and* maintaining the integrity of the thread.

Not asking for special treatment, just a way of making life simpler for all of us. I'll put a link here on the thread - perhaps you would be kind enough to raise the issue with your colleagues. smiley - smiley

Hi Kaerori,

The Researchers and the italics have spent some time talking through non-English languages on h2g2 in various places. The most recent conversations are on two Announcement threads, and the Community decided that if content could not be understood, it would be referred until it could be translated. Putting in a translation will raise the chances of individual Postings being passed.

The threads can be found here F77636?thread=190898 and here F77636?thread=192242. Thanks for your comments, and I hope this helps. smiley - smiley
