Question for moderators?
Old Net Lunatic Started conversation May 27, 2002
My intro page has been suspended, I have changed it recently, however I have just re-read the house rules and I can't for the life of me see what I might have done wrong other than:
I used the famous Latin phrase 'quidquid latine dictum sit, altum viditur' which roughly means 'anything in latin sounds profound'.
Surely the erudite moderators can allow this piece of silliness......?

Hi Old Net Lunatic,
The Latin phrase was the reason that your page was referred, but as the same phrase has been used in an Edited Guide Entry, I've reinstated it.
Thanks for contributing to h2g2.

A link that doesn't work, like
[please leave for demonstration purposes mods] http://thisisnotasite.com
So if you click on it, you get an error message.

Bugger. Just clicked on it, and someone has .
Okay then [again, please leave mods]

If the link doesn't work- the mods take it out and replace it with that message. Except examples like this, I hope.

I'll try the moderated link again:-http://sporkulious.digitalrice.com
OK - Previewed and tested it and it works perfectly. What about it moderators does it pass ?

Apparently it does, coz it's still here....
What sometimes (thankfully not very often) happens is that when the moderator comes across your link (s)he tries it out to make sure it works/doesn't link to an 'unsuitable' site... If at that particular instant the internet server hosting the site you've linked to has either crashed or is too busy, the moderator gets the same message as if it was a duff link - thus it gets failed... The moderators only look at a posting once - so if the link doesn't work on that one occasion it gets removed.
That might explain why it didn't pass the first time.

I understand that Guru's : Aces and Scouts are volunteers.
I take it that a Moderator will reply under the persona of h2g2 Support
Are the Moderators selected and employed by the BBC ?

I don't actually think you'll see moderators 'on-site' - they're not actually H2G2 researchers (or at least no h2g2 researcher has ever admitted to being a moderator)... From what I've heard, they're generally students, employed by a firm which in turn is employed by the beeb to check all message boards etc... They just sit there at home with a copy of the rules and regs and go through every single posting made... one at a time and out of context...
-note to the moderator who's going to read this-
I dare you to come on line and correct me if I'm wrong
