Isn't the only way to protect your self from it to be very carefull of what you say but doesn't that hesitaion in your talking lead people to belive you are kinda slow and not all that quick thinking?

Even though somtimes you may wish to appear that way isn't it more likely that you would want to apear quick witted and make a few slips then apear slow and make none?
