... is, so far, that H2G2 has decreased in quality and entertainment value. This depending on the stronger house rules, the technical gadgets that has become obsolete or banned (images, for example) and so on. I'm not about to give up just yet, but I AM, for the record, disappointed.

Sorry to see that you're disappointed with the new h2g2. But don't you think that the changes will lead to a renewed emphasis on the Entries and discussions about them, which is where the h2g2 experience began? It is rather sad that some content has been lost; it was nice to see the pictures, particularly of the Researcher social gatherings. But I think what's left represents more of what the site started out being about, which I for one am happy is still here to be enjoyed. And the House rules haven't really changed significantly; we're just more pre-occupied with them because the people in the towers are now being overlooked by people in higher towers.

John, spoken to you before but the conversations have been wiped (sorry, hidden)! I'm slightly annoyed by the BBC takeover, mainly because of WAP, which was the whole point of the guide - access on the move, DNA's vision. I bought a wap phone for the sole purpose of using it for h2g2. I partly agree with the 'censorship' thing, but I'm very sad that when I'm away from home, I'm cut off from my world... Keep me posted if there is a light on the horizon... D.

I'm not really up on the WAP issue. I cherish the time spent at my almost obsolete desktop as an excuse to stay indoors, after a week spent out in the weather. But my understanding of the situation is that BBC sites are currently unavailable to WAP users due to a legal problem of some sort. I'm sure the folks at the beeb are as eager as anyone for h2g2 to take to the streets and evolve into something more closely resembling DNA's vision of the Guide. In the meantime, we just have to grin and bear it. Having access to the resources of the BBC and the benevolent protection of their army of lawyers may be something of a mixed blessing; but, at least, we still have h2g2 in some form - albeit an imperfect one, at this stage - to have and to hold... if only, for the time being, in a seated position.

I've calmed down a bit now and am (mostly) happy! After all, because of the unique way the BBC is funded, we make it what it is, and where better to do that than h2g2! Hope to talk soon, happy gardening, Darren.
