Looks like there is quite a bit of spaces for them, plus you've got the same design pattern as on the BBC homepage with the 4 tabs. Which I'd steer clear if you don't have glossy images or video to place.
I'm not that familiar with the H2G2 as whole, but it struck me it's mainly a text-content site. So will there be enough images to go round? Or someone is going to have a daily/weekly job or sourcing them?
It's quite a consumption-heavy homepage for a site that's built by its readership. Is the redesign trying to encourage new participants? Support existing readers to become more active? What drives the placement and selection of external links? Also seems to have dropped the currency of things like popular conversations.
