????? I know 10+2=12.
What's the significance?

Gregory (or at least his mathematician) came up with approx. 10 (debated between 9,10 and 11). Decided to go with 10. He decided that the next day after Oct. 4, 1582, should be called Oct. 15.

Are you suggesting that the delta after ca. 200 years should have been 2 days (10+2=12)? There had to be some rounding, and above all, it had to be exactly the difference between those countries that had already adopted the Gregorian calendar in 1582.

I think the significance of 10+2=12 is that someone earlier said the sequence of days went 1,2,14,15. The latter respondent was just pointing out that the sequence should have gone 1,2,12,13,14,15. From the subsequent conversation the actual sequence seems to have been 1,2,3,4,14,15 (I think).

Anyway this has all gone off thread, why doesn't somebody knock up a quick entry on Calendars and their changes. I hear there's an island off Scotland that's still 11 days behind or something.

Whatever way you look at it, the years did NOT go 1, 2, 14 - the difference between 2 and 14 is NOT 11. Trust me, I double checked by counting my fingers

You're using Bistro math then!
3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13 are missing. That's 11 days. Google for "Gregorian Julian calendar" and you'll find of lots of good, serious articles. This is important stuff. NASA, astronomers, etc. all count days since all the major cycles were in sync and that means going backwards past dates such as Sep 1772 and 1582.

That's exactly what I said. Ten days in 1582 (when the Catholic countries adopted). By the time Britain and her colonies got in line it was off by 11.
(I don't read Latin - just saw the numbers.)
