It seems to me that they shared a joint facility for appearing effortless to the point of laziness. Peter Jones, as the tribute suggests, sounded so wonderfully languid on Just a Minute that he seemed to just be saying whatever came into his mind first, in much the same was as Douglas Adams gave the impression that he just sat down at a computer and wrote until he had finished.
