In America, the underground is commonly called "the subway". Other tubeway systems are amalgamated into some sort of mildy clever acronym involving the word "transit" (PATH, BART, etc.) Like all other things in America, subways are bigger, noiser, smellier, dirtier, and overall more unpleasant than the Underground, but still offers more advantages and variety than England itself.

Actually, while BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) does involve the word "transit",
PATH actually stands for "Port Authority Trans-Hudson", and does not.
So there.
