Lee Vally Park - Essex & Herts - A492068

Another one for your perusal.

I was hoping this and the Waltham Abbey entry could go through the system at about the same time in the hope of maintaining their links together, but we'll see.

Any comments?

This is an excellent article, I would reccomend this were I a Scout smiley - smiley

Couple of spelling mistakes I spotted...

Maybe the second thing in the list of things not do do in the Birdwatching section should be 'Nothing that opens with velcro is used'

There is a space missing between 'pike' and 'in' in the Fishing section

Avoid is spelt wrong in the third paragraph of Walking and Cycling

Apart from that I can't fault it.

Maybe being really picky. Where does the river really rise? Is it Dunstable downs? I come from Bedford originally and that is the only place I can think of where a river might rise around there

Thanks Orcus - typos fixed. smiley - smiley

I've also put in a link for the lee valley walk, which if followed will show you where the Lee rises - Leagrave Marsh, just north of luton town centre - under a main road and a block of flats apparently - most auspicous beginnings!

Really?! Must be a spring from the London aquifer then I guess. Yeurghh, Luton town centre, not quite as glamorous as the search for the source of the Nile right enough!

Should be Lea Valley

Isn't the spelling of Lea gone into in the article?

Should be Lea Valley?

Well at least you managed to spell valley rightsmiley - winkeye which is more than I did!

The spelling issue is covered in it's basic form in the entry. but OK, lets get petantic about this - if I was refering to the Lea valley in general - i.e. the valley carved by the river and the towns within it, it would be spelt Lea. But, the entry is referring specifically to the country park, whick is officially spelt Lee.

Or you can just do what Ordnance Survey did with the maps and give both spellings in the hope of offending no-one!

Hope that's somewhat less confused now?

Hi Sue,

Just a note so you know that a Scout has visited smiley - winkeye

I have to agree with the above comments, it's absolutely ideal material - informative, useful and readable. I don't think you'll have to wait too long for this one to get picked.

Good job!

Thank you GVI.smiley - smiley I'll just go and decrease the size of my inflated head now smiley - winkeye

JZG - I hope my comments didn't offend at all - just that (barring the last 4 years) I've lived in the Lea Valley all my life and my dad was a 'parkie' (the official term was Ranger, but he was a parkie really smiley - winkeye) for the Lee Valley Park for about 20 years. I grew up being force fed this stuff!

Wonder if this will be picked when I'm back from my holiday...

Hi Sue,

Well done! The Editors liked your entry as much as I did, so as you can see from the above posting, it's gone forward to the subbing process. This can take a little while (though it's much faster than it once was!), but it should only be a few weeks before you get an e-mail saying it's on the front page and in the Edited Guide.

Thanks for contributing, and please do keep writing!

Thanks for recommending it GVI.

You're right about the subbing process being quicker than it used to be - would you believe my last entry went from being recommended to the front page in 2 weeks? I almost hope this one takes a bit longer, the speed almost scared my socks off!smiley - winkeye

Thanks again for all the comments
