Its not entirely true to say that the binomial theorem comes from the /most/ abstract of algebras. Theres plenty of things with less direct connection to reality than polynomials.
The Pascals triangle could be done using the pre tags.
The comment about getting hit by an asteroid cannot be true. IIRC the only injuries caused by getting directly hit by an asteroid was the death of one small dog (not counting dinosaurs), whereas people win the lottery most weeks. Getting run over by a car is probably about the right risk though.
