it sounds something like the classic "other line" theory to me! take for example the grocer's application. you choose any line to be in to pay and get your weary self home to bed, and, regardless of which line it is, all the other lines will moe at least three times as fast as it! we tested this at the local general store, by getting on the fastest-moving and shortest line, where the two people in front of us had less than five items between them. the other line (5 people long, several items each) managed to clear before we even got to the counter....voila! another cynic's theory to add to the stash!
