I can only endorse Gnomon's comments that if you happen to go to Orlando a visit to KSC is a must, even if you don't have any particular interest in space research. there is so much there to see that is 'real' history, as opposed to the other fun theme parks.
The rocket garden has examples of most of the manned launch vehicles, and what is striking is the comparison between the ones used for the first sub orbital flights and the later Apollo launch vehicles. They span only a dozen or so years.
Highlights for me were touching the moonrock and standing under the engines of the Saturn V. Also a look at the lunar module in the Apollo display, which was I believe a fully flight rated lem and would probably have been Apollo 18.
