The reliablity of floppies can be got round by accidentally (honest) leaving them on the roof of your car, and then driving off. This is what a fellow-student did a few years ago. The disks were never seen again.

A simpler error in using a floppy disk to do homework is to create your essay/text document on a portable wordprocessor and then hand it in on a floppy disk. The probability that the teacher has that particular type of word processor to actually read the data on the disk is very small. Even if they do the old,
"Oh, well it must have been corrupted" works quite well.
