Almere Sand Sculptures

For one month of every year, the beach at Almere (a town close to Amsterdam in Holland) plays host to a Sand Sculpture Park. In July 2000, a team of 88 sculptors from around the world got together and built an exhibition in celebration of Holland's long trading partnership with Japan. The result was "Sand from here to Tokyo", a walk through history with representations of early Japanese belief, the first trade caravans, and old favourites such as sushi, geishas, sumo, and the forty-seven ronin.
