Username/Password Error On Export from Linux to Windows NT

I've read the NFS-HOWTO file and the FAQ for the Usenet Linux newsgroups, and I still have the following problem. Currently, comp.os.linux.misc seems to be stumped, so I figured I'd try the Fount of All Knowledge of Life, the Universe, and Everything. B^{D>

Problem Description:
--------------------

When I try to access a Linux-exported directory via Windows NT
Explorer, I get the following error message:

"Incorrect password or unknown username for \\\"

It then prompts me for username and password. When I enter one, it gives me another error:

"\\\ is not accessible.
The remote system refused the network connection."

I don't get this problem when I access an HP-Unix machine the same way; it gives me a directory listing in NT format.

OS Versions:
------------
Windows NT Version 4.0 (Build 1381: Service Pack 6)
Linux 2.2.13-4mdk #1 Tue Sep 7 18:23:11 CEST 1999 i686 unknown (output from 'uname -a')

Config Files:
-------------
/etc/exports on Linux box:

/ *.(rw,insecure) 204.107..*(rw)

some bloke who tried to think of a short, catchy, pithy name and spent five sleepless nights trying but couldn't think of one

Sorry. I've never networked, so I have no idea.

Hey, at least you responded, which is more help than I've gotten from the rest of H2G2 and Usenet combined.

I suspect I would have gotten more help from Usenet if I'd titled my post, "Clueless Newbie question" or something like that.
