At last, I've switched to Linux and must admit that it was a painless experience (once I got here).

Sorry - since reading my post, it sounds a bit churlish, but I just had to tell someone.
BTW, is it easy to add a printer? I'm running Mandrake - with KDE - it seems that lpd isn't installed - so I found out when I tried to run lconf.
Any ideas?

See the Printing-HOWTO at the Linux Documentation Project site, the URL of which I would give if I was allowed to (though check first that it's not under /usr/doc/HOWTO or /usr/share/doc/HOWTO or something similar). [Note to moderator: these are pathnames, not URLs.] It contains a list of supported printers and says how well they are supported.
As long as it doesn't have a sticker saying 'Designed for Windows 98' on it, you should probably be OK.
