kea ~ Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the western spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small, unregarded but very well read blue and white website Posted Feb 10, 2005
I like that that there aren't many photos on h2 especially on PSs. I have a 5 year old computer and don't really want my already slow loading slowed even further.
I also really like that h2 isn't predominantly a visual site. It takes a different kind of relating (like the original HHGG text game). It also means that I don't have to be exposed to lots of realy bad or annoying graphics.
I agree with the sentiments already expressed - that the founders and TPTB are entitled to extra priviledges, and that moaning about it isn't a good way to initiate change.
btw Marjin, your PS is way too wide for my screen, and there is no horizontal scroll bar appearing. You might want to check your gML.

"Just curious, what browser do you use 'kea'?
I just tried IE, Firefox and Opera, but the Personal Space seems fine. All browsers take it on default width, no scrolling.
Hmm, for the curious, I have my picture on site, somewhere . . .

I.E:mac 1.5
I had this problem with a page I was working on (that some people saw it as too wide). I'll check the gML later.

If I have offended anyone they have my sincerest apologies. sometimes the frustrations of RL bleed through into my online personae. As I am locked into a job with a salary cap of 15K it is unlikely that I will leave the US anytime soon. Those who are fortunate enough to attend meet-ups in England have only my best wishes. As a member of the Central US Researchers group we almost had a meet-up in Chicago but it got called off.

Hi Shagbark,
No offense taken there my friend. Easy mistake to make if you're not 100% up on the history of the site. As it happens, Richard was immeasurably important to h2g2. He was one of our greatest evangelists when we moved to the BBC and as one of our founders we agreed that it would be only right to allow him to retain his 'Italic' status when he retired (Richard continues to use the site too, and has brought many fascinating projects to us, such as John Ridgeway's 'Save the Albatross' campaign, which concluded last year). He's done so much for us in the past that we reckon he should be allowed to do what he likes really
As for the photo issue, well that's another matter, but a photo upload feature isn't currently in the pipeline. Loads of reasons, already mentioned, but mainly because we'd have to check 'em all, and we're busy enough just now.
We have no problems with linking to another webspace though - so long as the pic is appropriate for a family audience.
Shame the Chicago meet-up didn't work out, but you never know, you might be able to get a few more people interested in the future. If you manage to get it off the ground, give us a shout and we'll see if we can help promote it.
All the best,
Jimster

I'm not really here Posted Feb 12, 2005
shagbark, what you need to remember is that Richard also set up and ran 360 for a time as well - so many of the photographs that you see were also used on there.

Right, I'm off to Cuba now - see you in a couple of weeks' time at Broadcast Centre, we're closing the door to Bush House in a few minutes time.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
