I like the comparisons, but you've got to get pedestrians in there somewhere. The top tip we were given for crossing roads, was once you're moving, don't stop! I don't know how you would fit this into the particle comparison, but apparently by maintaining a constant speed and trajectory your movement is predictable and the drivers can avoid you more easily. If you stop of change direction you're knackered. this advice was from the local chinese that we were working with.
