You say that you can get a dial accurate withih a couple of mins. I always thought that the sum of the inaccuraties due to the "equation of time" was over fourteen mins in november. Am I wrong?

Gnomon - time to move on

Could be! I have all the details somewhere, but this was written off the top of my head without checking anything with the reference books. If I ever get around to submitting this as an Edited Guide Entry, I'll check my facts.

Gnomon - time to move on

I've checked it out. You're right. The equation of time says that a sundial which takes no account of seasons will be 16 minutes fast in November, 14 minutes slow in February. So I'll have to rewrite my article.

Thanks!
