There are better things than Quorn burgers for a vegetarian Christmas.

Tinkerbell *tumbleweed* Posted Nov 5, 2000
Mmmm Quorn sushi I know, last year I found turkey and cranberry quorn burgers
Seriously though, there are many better things but as there's only me who's a vegetarian in our house it's awkward to find a space in the oven so grilling tends to be the only option...I did consider barbecueing last year but it was far to cold

My whole family went vegetarian at one point (except for me... I can't live without bacon ) and they had nut roast for Christmas dinner. (Oh that's the other reason why I didn't go vegetarian... I can't stand nut roast! It looks nice, the components are nice, but put together I don't like it )

*shivers at the thought of quorn burgers......* Ok.. so they're actually quite nice... but real meat is far nicer
I've never tried cold goose sandwiches for an eternity..... we usually end up having turkey.... but only for a couple of days, cos we're all just too hungry in my house
I'll have any marzi-pan you don't want tink' But I'll never allow you ALL of the chocolate
*dazes of into a dream world of chocolate*

MaW Posted Nov 6, 2000
How about a chocolate log? Like those... and marzipan free
* MaW detests marzipan and would like to try icing a christmas cake without putting any marzipan on first *
Cabinet Discussion: Christmas Party
Peregrin Posted Nov 6, 2000
*Peregrin loves marzipan, and points out to MaW that it helps the Christmas cake keep without drying out, and he can always pass over his marzipan to Peregrin if he like 'cos, as Peregrin mentioned, he loves marzipan...*
Cabinet Discussion: Christmas Party
Tinkerbell *tumbleweed* Posted Nov 6, 2000
*suspects she's already mentioned her strong dislike for extremely manky marzipan so doesn't mention it again but points out that it would probably be possible to just eat the cake rather than leaving it on top of the cupboard and finding it next November and thus it wouldn't need manky marzipan as it wouldn't have the opportunity to dry out*
Mmmm chocolate dream world
*grins*
Oh sorry, the nut roast would be a problem in the part of nut being the operative word Besides I'm sure Tesco's will do quorn in white wine sauce again...
*thinks*
Or I could just drink the white wine and then I'd not notice how icky the nuts were
And please don't talk about bacon...
*dreams of eating bacon*
Mmmmm bacon

MaW Posted Nov 6, 2000
Maybe if the christmas cake was made smaller, the marzipan wouldn't be necessary. I always find it makes the cake itself taste horrid, especially around the edges.
Tinkerbell, I think we should start a campaign for a marzipan-free Christmas. I could use my army of penguins to back up our message.
Cabinet Discussion: Christmas Party
Peregrin Posted Nov 6, 2000
OK, how about one of you makes/draws/finds a recipe for/whatever a marzipanless Christmas cake for the party. And I'll provide seperate lumps of marzipan for addicts like myself

I'll see. I'm busily decorating the Ministry at the moment, but we'll see what can be done. Thankfully it's not December yet!
Cabinet Discussion: Christmas Party
Tinkerbell *tumbleweed* Posted Nov 6, 2000
Yeah no marzipan...such a good idea, with the weight of two ministries behind us we must surely be able to do something half effective to getting it banned...
Cabinet Discussion: Christmas Party
MaW Posted Nov 7, 2000
Of course. And replaced with what? Jelly and toothpaste?
Cabinet Discussion: Christmas Party
Tinkerbell *tumbleweed* Posted Nov 7, 2000
Does toothpaste go with jelly? Dorrito's don't go with humous...
Cabinet Discussion: Christmas Party
The Fish Posted Nov 7, 2000
*Wonders if he should point out that an old christmas cake tastes nicer than a young one... and that marzipan is a critical part of this ageing process..... decides not to..... as in fact last year he had a christmas cake which was tin stored without marzipan, and it tasted lovely, just iced... *
*Still like marzipan... *
How can anyone not like food.... that's what I'd like to know
Cabinet Discussion: Christmas Party
Peregrin Posted Nov 7, 2000
Except blackcurrants because they make me vomit. And chickpeas. I think it's an allergic reaction but I can't see a connection between them.
I don't mind actually - they both taste horrible anyway.
Food's good. If I couldn't eat food, I'd just die.

Food is good. Except for:
- mushrooms
- beetroot. there is no use for this that I can see - apart from maybe dying clothes
- fish
- courgettes
- avocados
apart from that, most food is great.
Cabinet Discussion: Christmas Party
Tinkerbell *tumbleweed* Posted Nov 7, 2000
Mmmm mushrooms and bacon
*sighs and goes to look for pink vege cardboard bacon attempt*
Beetroot is good for cheese and for dropping on tablecloths at relatives houses...and mushrooms are just yummy as are courgettes but only if they're cooked right as otherwise they're bitter...
Anyway lists of foods that are icky;
Marzipan,
Dark Chocolate,
Sauer Kraut (manky, manky, manky)
Caviar (Luckily not missed much)
Nuts
Mango and Lime chilli relish
Rice Pudding
and ummm...there's something else which I really detest but I can't recall as I don't eat it...does Lemsip count?
