On a similar note, why d people keep using metodology when they mean method? I know its a bit pedantic, but -ology means study of. I'm sure most people have heard something along the lines of 'I propose to use the following design methodology'. I guess its an example of people using words they've heard elsewhere without actually trying to understand them.
Oh well, if only I knew who started it!

Actually, if you consult Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, the first listed definition of 'methodology' is: 'a body of methods, rules, and postulates employed by a discipline; a particular procedure or set of procedures'. So in that sense 'a design methodology' is semantically OK. Still, if someone kept telling me about their design methodology I'd probably slap them and tell them to go design the damn thing already.

Your first point: of course the definition follows the use of the word. That's how a language works.
I don't have the heart to argue any more, because I suspect neither of us cares that much about 'methodology'!
