Felonious - I hope you won't resign over a single entry on a spitting game, of all things. Not that I could convince you either way.
I'll post a reply to the other comments in a couple of days, so I can have a chance to mull over some of the very good points here. Unless y'all reach some kind of consensus first, of course...

FM - please don't resign from being a scout. u r a great scout, and u get a reminder message on the same day as me, and i'd hate to be the only scout who gets a remonder message on that day.
i think that scouts should quite easily be able to give their own personal opinion on entries like this, it is simply giving your opinion in a non-offensive manner. of course this shouldn't be harda s everyone should give their opinion in a non-offensive manner, scout or not.
as, for me, i have 2p and i'm gonna throw it in the pot:
i personally think this entry is ok, with the only concern being the repeated use of the word w**k.
that's my 2p, of course i do not claim to be all powerful.
good luck with the entry!

Despite all the acrimony in this thread, there's one thing I think we're all agreed on: Felonious, it really would be a terrible waste if you gave up scouting over this.

"Seven Card Workstain"?
Doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

Looneytunes wrote an excellent entry on boogers, called 'The Sound of Mucus' I believe. Yeah, it's gross. It's also informative. So an entry shouldn't be snubbed because it's about a disgusting topic.
When I look for entries to recommend, I have three criteria: is it well written, is it about a factual subject, and does it adequately cover the subject? (So to speak.) This entry does all three.
So we have to ask the question - do we want to open that box? I mean, think about it. I could decide to write an entry about toe jam tomorrow, and if it meets the criteria mentioned, then there's no reason why it shouldn't become an edited entry! Or ear wax. Or pus. Everybody wants to learn about pus, right?
But this is supposed to be a guide about everything, and ear wax and belly button lint is part of the everything, as much as we'd like not to think about it.
So my vote as a scout is that there's no reason why this entry shouldn't be recommended. I'm just glad I've done my picks for the month!

I know: I picked it for the EG.
I wonder what that implies.

Personally, I didn’t like the 7CW article (sorry, Lucinda) and would not be sorry if it didn’t make it to the edited guide because the behaviour which it describes really is more than a bit disgusting and I don’t think any good comes from dwelling too long on that kind of thing (and, no, I am NOT from Tunbridge Wells).
The article wasn’t even useful to me because on simply hearing the name of the game I would instantly know not to play it. A description on h2g2 is not necessary. (I fervently hope and pray that I never get drunk enough to want to play a game like that!!!)
As for the biscuit game mentioned above; pull the other one! People don’t really come together to play that kind of game…..do they? (he says momentarily peeping out from his life shelter).
We could all spend time and effort heaving the around the boundaries of what is acceptable on h2g2 but I guess that most visitors to the guide will want to read useful rather than revolting stuff.
Someone could write well researched and beautifully presented articles on the “Smells in Free Church Toilets in Wester Ross” or “Variations in Colour and Taste in Narwhal Poo” but it would be pointless because no-one would want to read them and they would certainly be quite unpleasant.
Another thought. Is there any way of knowing which are the most frequently accessed entries in the guide?

If I may quickly answer a couple points:
> "There is no particular reason to think even *they* ever played [7CW] again. Is there? "
They played it a few times on holiday. and then the inventor played it a few times with people on our GAP year program. I doubt they played it at all after then, mainly because (I fervently hope that) they grew up some. Does that change people's views of the entry?
> " I didn't like the 7CW article (sorry)"
Absolutely no need to apologise. Especially given that you gave some constructive reasons *why* as well, which always helps

Oh, that's funny, Felonious! No, I had no idea that you picked that article - I had the bright idea of writing an article on boogers a while back, and so did a search... and found that Looney had already covered that topic admirably.
And now we all should question my sanity!

Variations in Colour and Taste in Narwhal Poo.
Isn't ambergris some kind of whale secretion that washes up on shores? I can't remember if it's used as a flavo(u)ring, but if not, the guide entry might be "Variations in Colour and Scent of Whale Poo." People made big money on those whale secretions at one time. Perhaps they create it synthetically these days, or they farm the whales and force their secretions? It would make a fascinating guide entry.

slip sliiidin' away
isn't that the stuff that naughty Dr Lecter sent to Starling; or rather the main ingredient in some hand-made perfume which was illegal in the US so... etc...
anyone seen the new Leccy film? I have the original, and i'm wondering whether to bother with this new one on release or wait... anyone seen it?
