A Conversation for Calling All New Yorkers!
A NYC Meetup anyone?
NYC Student - The innocent looking one =P Posted Sep 6, 2000
I'm up for it, but I'm starting school tomorrow, and would like to get an idea of where and when...
A NYC Meetup anyone?

Yes! Let's plan something for the Friday before Thanksgiving (November 17). If it's after Thanksgiving nobody will be able to come because there will be all kinds of holiday stuff to do. We should also set a date far enough in advance so that even people who don't log on very often can still find out about it far enough in advance and make plans to come.
One more question: does anyone know how to make little H2G2 buttons that we can wear to identify ourselves?

Dr. Funk Posted Sep 7, 2000
Just before Thanksgiving sounds as good as any other time, but I usually play in a bar in Red Hook (jqr, this is Sunny's, that place I told you about) on Fridays, so I might not be able to make it--unless, of course, y'all were just to come to Sunny's, a good place to meet anyway because it's such a great bar, even if it is hard to get to, and now that I've made this a really long run-on sentence, I might as well just keep going until I stop here.
To identify ourselves, I propose sunglasses and helicopter beanies. Or, if you come to Sunny's (tomorrow, even), I will be identifiable by my green fiddle.

The friday before Thanksgiving sounds good to me too...
I propose a Manhattan location which should be central to everyone coming from different places. I would prefer a bar, but there might be youngins, so lets not choose a specific place until we see who is interested...
spread the word!

In other news I asked Peta if she could help, and she said she would post something on the front page next week maybe! Not too shabby, eh?

That frontpage mention will surely lure them in! In anticipation of the droves of attendees, maybe we should rent a catering hall....

Jsut so you guys know, I work at the Barnes and Noble on 17th street, on the north side of Union Square park on the first floor. My real name's Jack and I work the info desk. Stop by sometime--I'm working Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday this week.
Hope to see you guys there. I'd be interested to see what a guideguy looks like.

I was looking for a book on friday! and I didn't SEE an info desk on the first floor...
Incidentally...
jqr Posted Sep 18, 2000
I was there the other day looking for Mad magazine, actually, and the guy on the 3d floor led me right to it. I forgot to ask about the bombmaking...

Spaceboy Zoom Posted Sep 18, 2000
What a coincidence! I was looking for bombmaking info *and* MAD magazine!
Did you see me? I was dressed all in white and have a big pointy nose, and a big white hat... I have a buddy who looks just like me except in black...

Yes! You were at the in-store ATM machine just before it exploded!

hmm...didn't see any of you...but then again shifty looking people dressed in black are rather common in NYC--we call them poets.
Or whatever.
I'm workin' Wednesday and friday from 930 to 6 at the big desk that says to the right with 'customer service' above it in big, friendly letters. I'm the one with black glasses and an aura of sarcasm.
Kinda hard to miss.

I checked my Marianne Williamson brand AuraSpotter and it doesn't have a setting for "sarcasm." Maybe the deluxe model would pick up on it...
