Can't compete.
But - when time's limited, there's no knowing what you can do.
Just find the time.

Thank you PBS and I beg your pardon. Didn't mean to be ignorant. I missed this one.
I know you could compete without the slightest difficulty, if you had the time and the inclination
Though it's not the writing that takes the time (42 words is a minute's work for a fairly slow typist), but the thinking them up.

If I had the time and the inclination. That's the problem, I am inherently 'lazy' and if I have to think too hard about or work too hard at anything, I don't bother - or rather - just give up. However, I am also incapable of doing 'nothing'. 42 word stories (and six word autobiographies) are the sort of thing you can do on a bus or when 'waiting' - times when I would otherwise be doing the crossword.
Your 42 worders are good though and food for thought.

Reminds me on that song that goes "We're busy doing nothing, working the whole day through, trying to find lots of things not to do"
And if you were wondering where to start with such a gargantuan task, you could do worse than get stuck into a tricky crossword.
Six word autobiographies? Eg "I was born. Did some stuff."
Speaking of food for thought, I've just had a scan through them and notices one titled "Noseratu News". I bet that made lil wonder what I was on about. I left the "F" out of Nosferatu Oh well

Not easy – life in six words.
Soe of my efforts:
My problem? Being a middle child.
Learnt the rules - then bent them.
Peaked at thirty - downhill ever since.
I have learnt something from everyone.
Have not strangled my wife - yet.
Wouldn’t want it any other way.
Loved the girlfriends – loathed the wives.
My road to hell is paved.
I should have retired at twenty.
I could never really understand Tuesdays.
I enjoy making lil wonder!!

'lil *is* a wonder' - of course - I couldn't agree more and could not be more grateful for all her (and the others') efforts in putting all the tripe (that the likes of me send them) together in a form that it can be published in the post. We all owe them a lot.

Or, to put it another way:
lil wanders in and wonders,
Then ponders a little more,
'Without your tripe, my darlin's,
I'd be out the HooToo door'.
