Blimey Smudger, that is a lot of people to lose while in a job!
For so many to die does indeed sadly make it a cruel sea.

Hi SS, Yea! but you must remember that was over a period of 14 years, and six of them were on the Piper Alpha when it exploded
Cheers, Smudger.

Smudger, is there no end to your talents? You have certainly had a varied life and packed a lot in.
The number of deaths touched me too. I remember Piper Alpha

Hi WS, Caught me just as I was passing through
The safety side of things improved during my time in the early days, and you must remember it was a big industry employing thousands of folk over the years.
I suppose the most dangerous part was flying out and back to the rigs, as some of them were so far out, it was a 2 hour flight in the chopper, and that was after the fixed wing flight up to Unst, in the far North of Scotland

Aye! you never knew at the time that it was all going to be short lived, the industry just seemed to disappear completely, but I was happy to be part of it.
It also was well paid work, and during my years of working in it, it gave my family a good standard of living, which I am afraid I was never home long enough to appreciate
Maybe thats why the divorse cost me so much

Yes, work has a lot to answer for, especially those that take fathers away from home. They are years you can't get back unfortunately.
You have the satisfaction that you provided well for them anyway.

Yea! its just a pity they never remembered that after the divorce though, as neither of them have been in touch since, and that was over 17 years ago
It seems a big price to pay for my happiness, and even made worse now that we know that our happiness is going to be short lived Hey! its no wonder I'm getting therapy as I have this and PTSD to contend with as well

Cheer up Smudger, i am sure there are compensations. I try to count my blessings every day, just to remind myself that there are thousands worse off than me. I used to always think about the future, and plan for it, but plans never work out, and now I take every day as it comes and try to make the best of it.
I hope the therapy will be useful. I suspect it is far to early to have any inkling of whether it is working?
Take care,
Websailor

Aye! WS, that is exactly what I do these days, is take each day on as it comes
Its the only way to cope with our situation?
