Yeah why not, I mean you probably have a higher chance of being hit by a car; I was hit by a lorry,
life is too short to worry over every risk; large or small,
so I carry on smoking.

The thing that annoys me about the anti-smoking(having fun) brigade, is that they always stand up and tell you what damage you are doing to your health by smoking.
I have a reply; I ask them what their credentials are to give me this medical view of smoking, and I tell them I have a 1:1 BSc in cell and molecular biology and Biomedical sciences; so I point out that I am more informed than them, and they should leave me to make my own decission.
I mean, stress is really bad medically; increasing risk of cancer etc. etc., smoking reduces stress, OK; you have a higher chance of heart disease and lung cancer; but the heart disease aspect can be ignored because most people; Me Included!!, have such a bad diet; high fat, low fibre, wrong fats/lipids, that the smoking only adds to the problem; and physical exercise can do a lot to nul any/most ill-affects of smoking, plus it has the benifit of lowering stress levels, oh, and most importantly;
I Enjoy IT!!!

Isnt that what life is all about? Doing what you enjoy! All right, so the times may be a little rough, and you are feeling down, and THEN some light-headed goose comes along and tells you all those little facts they dug out of a pamphlet? Leave us alone! Let us have our fun and relax. Good response you have there. I might try it once. smiley - smiley

You actually have a degree in whatever you said it was that sounded like it is shrouded in mystics and complexity? Cool. smiley - smiley

Yeah smiley - smiley Bsc; Cell and molecular biology and biomedical science smiley - biggrin or, shortened to cell Mol Bio and Biomed Sci, and I thought the degree was called "biological Sciences", until the day I found out my final results smiley - biggrin show how much attention I payed smiley - biggrin Although, somehow, heaven knows how, I got a first, which is pretty cool, except everyone automatically thinks I am clever, and in someway this means I found the degree easy, just cause I am clever; which I'me not, I had to work like the rest, probably harder; between long drinking sessions, maybe that is why I did well; I could drink all night and get up and write an essay? smiley - biggrinsmiley - ale

Duel function; going off line about once an hour for a ciggerette gives my laptop time to cool down; when it gets too hot it goes weird..

Uhm.. define weird. And by the way, going offline means turning off your laptop.. or.. going offline means going offline? Does it get warm when you are on the net, but not when you're off the net? smiley - smiley

No, it gets hot when ever it is on for an hour or so, not just when I am on the Net..
Weird; it begins getting very slow, the screen doesn't update quickly; you type something and it takes an age to get onto the monitor..
And it is more likely to crash. and do other weird things like bring up daft error messages, which can't be true because some of them are spelt wrong...

Beware of Microsoft smiley - biggrin and, perhaps more obviously, beware of the last two firms I have brought computers from:: They don't ship them with the Windows 98 disk, even though they claim to do so, but refuse to send another, which makes setting up scanners and stuff like my scanner and CD RW, and printers, pretty difficult if the driver isn't installed on the hard drive, which it never seems to be:: It is the computer firms that have driven me to obtaining copies of Windows 98:: I should by rights have at least two origional coppies smiley - cry

Hum.. thats exactly my line of thinking too. As much work I have laid down in getting the damned thing to work, Microsoft should owe me money by now. I'm no Microsoft supporter, as you can read on my page (read: UNIX), but nonetheless, I use it both at home and at work. Go figure. It takes the least amount of time to set up a Windows box to say.. a Linux box. When you are in a hurry, go with the easiest crap. smiley - smiley

You wouldn't believe the amount of error messages I now get per day using Microsoft windows, I am really thinking of trying to get something different to use at least on one of my computers; I have used Unix a bit, maybe I should just run it, I still can't find a driver to allow my one-year old scanner work with the new laptop smiley - grr

Linux is a good alternative, as there are many companies which develops nice drivers for alot of their hardware. As for the scanner, you might want to chech for drivers there before you make the leap to Linux.
