What Muse Inspires You!??
Shea the Sarcastic Posted Mar 22, 2001
Goshoogoshoogosh, this was very useful information, thank you! Who knew that they named sirens for the Sirens? Wow ...
So after this, I say Goshoogoshoogosh is the muse that inspires me!
>By Apollo, Thalia had the Corybantes, priests who castrated themselves in
>identification with the goddess, Cybele. Ouch.
BTW, I just learned about Cybele last week! She met this guy Attis, who swore a vow of chastity to her, but he broke that vow with a tree nymph. Cybele killed the tree, which killed the nymph, and she drove Attis insane. He castrated himself and died. The blood from his castration became violets, and he turned into an evergreen. That's why her priests castrate themselves. They also dress in women's clothing and go around begging.
And if that's not funky enough, check out the circumstances of Attis's birth: his mother Nana slipped an almond down her dress, and she became pregnant from it. That's because the almond was from an almond tree that had been grown from the spilled blood of the castration of Agdistis (he was a wild, destructive, bisexual kind of guy - they figured if they fixed him, he'd calm down). And you know how they castrated Agdistis? Dionysis got him drunk, and then tied his privates to a tree (I think I edited that enough to keep the happy). Since Agdistis always woke up as wildly as he did everything else, when he leapt up, he tore them off ... and from the blood grew an almond tree ...
But wait, there's more: Agdistis was born when Zeus tried to attack the Earth Mother, and when she pushed him away, his "seed" dropped to the ground, and that's how Agdistis was made ...
I must say, I am enjoying taking a Classics and Mythology class! The fact that I take it 15 minutes after taking a Topics of Human Biology class almost gives me the bends, though!

Holy Moly! There was some weird sh*t going on in the olden days, when everything was still in black and white. It seems like you only had to spill a drop of blood and *poof*, some kind of plant or tree sprung up, or a gryphon maybe And people were doing all kinds of nasty things to others, which if you did them today would most likely get you thrown in the jug for a very long time. And what's all this about slipping an almond down your dress and becoming preggers? Too much. I'm going to be very wary whenever my wife starts noshing on the cashews she likes so much! I've got to start reading up on Greek mythology. You couldn't make that stuff up if you tried, could you
