I hate to be a party pooper, but you got your lyrics a little mixed up. It didn't sound right when I read it over, so I popped in the CD to check, and make sure I wasn't just being a ditz, you seem to have melded two stanzas together, and mixed up a word or two. No biggie, just thought I'd let you know. If you're curious, the correct lyrics, as they go in the song are below. smiley - smiley (please excuse spelling errors, I'm doing this as I listen to the CD)

Vincent by Don McLean

Starry Starry Night
Paint your palette blue and grey
Look out on a summer's day
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul

Shadows on the hills
Sketch the trees and the daphodills
Catch the breeze and the winter chills
In colors on the snowy linnen land

Now I understand
What you tried to say to me
How you suffered for your sanity
How you tried to set them free

They would not listen
They did not know how,
Perhaps they'll listen now

Starry Starry night
Flaming flowers that brightly blaze
Swirling clouds in violet haze
Reflect in Vincent's eyes of china blue

Colors changing hue
Morning fields of amber grain
Weathered faces, lined in pain
Are soothed beneath the artist's loving hand

Now I understand,
What you tried to say to me,
How you suffered for your sanity
How you tried to set them free

They would not listen
They did not know how
Perhaps they'll listen now

For they could not love you
But still your love was true
And when no hope was left in sight
On that Starry Starry night

You took your life as lovers often do
But I could have told you Vincent,
This world was never ment
For one as beautiful as you

Starry Starry night
Portraits hung in empty halls
Frameless heads on nameless walls
With eyes that watch the world and can't forget

Like the strangers that you've met
The ragged men in ragged clothes
A silver thorn, a bloody rose
Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow

Now I think I know
What you tried to say to me
How you suffered for your sanity
How you tried to set them free

They would not listen
They're not listening still
Perhaps they never will

YAY!!!

I love that song... I am amazed you're not yet moderated...

but thank you for your help...

I'm too stubborn to alter the lyrics as they appear in headings... I think that maybe following each line exactly would... errr... make little sense to the text!?? smiley - tongueout

Groovy to meet you, by the way!!! You are a friend of St. Seven of Nine, are you!?? smiley - winkeye

St. Seven of Nine directed me over here... the title of her message at my page was "If you like Don McLean..." and I was worried I'd be moderated for that, but I donno... song lyrics are usually passed around pretty freely all over the place... and I did give credit... *shrugs* who knows... all I know is that it was a little weird as I read through the headers, and they seemed to all be in order, then "wait a minute, that doesn't sound right!". I wander around where ever I'm welcome (which seems to be everywhere so far smiley - smiley) and leave my two cents, byein zwei pfennig, and whatever other denomonations of currency I can find to throw in a couple of, well, then I toss those in too! smiley - smiley

How about for my next trick, I'll do all the lyrics of American Pie from memory? smiley - winkeye Well, with the exception of the first couple of lines in two stanzas that is, I can never seem to keep them straight... *shrugs* Or I could always switch to something other than Don McLean. I know some Beach Boys, Elton John, and who knows what else, off the top of my head... Oh, and there's "You've lost that lovin' feeling". I seem to be a walking talking data bank of lyrics, and stuff... but then I'm only 17, and my knowlage is limited to some extent.... smiley - smiley

Well, anyhow, I'm being a bad girl, and not working on my project for Sci-fi lit, so I should wrap this up... I'll talk to you later. Bye!

Hmm... the title sounds familiar, and if it's the one I think it is, I know bits and pieces of it... nice song, but I don't hear enough of it. I'd have to hear the melody, or even some of the lyrics to be able to do that one... and I unfortunately don't have if on CD, or anything... smiley - sadface

I know homework is very importaint, but I have to fight myself to do it... American Public "de-education" system *sigh* I'll quote a lyric that I think fits very well... "With all that crap I learned in high school, it's a wonder I can think at all" smiley - winkeye Do you know what song that came from? I'll let you know next time if you don't know it, or don't guess, but give it a try on your own.

Well, tomorrow's school day's a joke, then I have finals next week, and I'm foot loose, and fancy free. 'Til college next fall that is, but I'm hoping that won't be as bad as the public de-education I was forced to sit through the last 13 years of my life!

Well, Off I go to see what else I can find, bye!

I guess the trick IS to give credit... I didn't even think about being moderated when I typed the lyrics out. I was just doing so, 'cause I saw someone didn't have them the way they were supos'ta, and figured I'd provide them the way they were written. I'll keep that in mind, and see if this continues to work, or if I'll hav'ta come up with new tricks... I had a way to toss in a URL in a conversation, but then they figured it out, so I couldn't do it anymore smiley - sadface I was replacing . with [dot] and breaking up words, and stuff like that, and someone figured it out *sigh* Oh well, I have a link to my web page on my space, so I won't have to go through that trouble anymore! smiley - smiley

This one goes out to Dragonfly....

It's nine o'clock on a Saturday, regular crowd shuffles in...
There's an old man sittin next to me, makin love to his tonic and gin.
He says "Son can you play me a memory? I'm not really sure how it goes...
But it's sad and it's sweet and I knew it complete, when I wore a younger man's clothes."

Sing us a song, You're the Piano Man...sing us a song tonight!!
Well we're all in the mood for a melody...you got us feelin alright!

Na-na-naaa-naaa-na ni na--na-naaaa....

*takes a quick bow* (sorry that's all I can dig up from my memory smiley - smiley but now you've forced me to go find the CD!)

Hehe... Apollo's so godly he lost to a Goddess called Ben in the battle of the Gods, and lost his godzilla sized Sobe lizard to me (and I still have the lizard too smiley - smiley *pulls lizard out of purse, where it'd been lazily dozing under the mini sun lamp I have in there*) But anyhow... he DID get you those lyrics you asked for, and I was unable to provide, you we have to give him credit there.

And yes, you got the song right... it's called Kodachrome, and it's by Paul Simon, in case you wanted the title and artist. I need to get a friend to track down the mp3 for me, since I love that song, and I heardly ever hear it... and speaking of mp3, Golden Thighs, do you have any ideas where I could get an mp3 of Piano man? I like that song, but I don't hear it enough. They'll play it sporatically on the radio, but not nearly enough.

*pets his FORMER pet lizard...* Did we ever come up with a name for him? er, her?

Oh yeah! Almost forgot D'Fly...I had a momentary flash of inspiration!

"John at the bar he's a friend of mine, he gets me my drinks for free...
and he's quick with a joke or he'll light up your smoke, but there's someplace that he'd rather be."

But I have a question for you about later in the song....what exactly IS a realestate novelist??

Has anyone in this thread seen the new "Moulin Rouge" movie? (released in the US a couple weeks ago)
I know I'm likely to get stoned by SG over this, but I thought the tango version of Roxanne was Awesome!! It was such an incredible scene...as a matter of fact it was a great movie/musical, with a few "unrealistic" glitches that took away from the effect. I was just curious what everyone else though of it...

Okay, first, I settled on the name of Nilpferd for the lizard. That means Hippopotumas in German (yes I'm a very twisted, and confused person, but that's okay, I know all of you love me anyways! smiley - winkeye).

I have not, as of yet, been able to get to see Moulin Rouge, but I was planning on trying to go see it, if I can. Please please please don't spoil it for me! smiley - sadface I don't like having the whole plot of the movie given away before I get to go see it. I was also wanting to go see Shrek, and Atlantis. I've been hearing good things about Shrek, but I haven't heard anything from anyone about Atlantis yet. Anyone know if it's any good?

Shrek was one of the best movies I'd seen in years. It helps if you've seen every single classic Disney movie there is, because the movie is practically built from references to them. (But it still manages to have a good plot!) Atlantis was better than I expected, about the same caliber and style as Titan A.E., if you've seen that. Not great, but not bad.
