*g* of course!

So far (and more-so if you saw it weeks ago) the embassy is just a baby, a project in the works. On the surface, it is basically what it says it is - a liaison for people from Earth to the world of H2G2. Just like if you visited Canada, you might want to go to the Dutch Embassy in order to talk to somebody familiar with your language and culture.

The main purpose is linguistic support, especially for non-Englishers, or those who want to communicate in non-English language. Hopefully, the Guide will eventually truly be multilingual, with Edited entries in many languages. One person has already suggested a Guide-lingua franca... perhaps Esperanto.

But so far what we have built is a partial structure consisting mostly of Guide info, such as can be found on the Welcome, Don't Panic, and such pages. We need community help for the linguistic aspect. People who are fluent in languages other than English, and certainly some who are bilingual and comfortable with human relations, customer service, the like, so they can speak with those of us in 'admin' who don't understand the language spoken, as well as with the people who speak that language.

Any other questions, I'll be happy to answer!

Kheldar,

Just thought this might be a topic of interest to you - I don't know if you've heard yet or not, but the Eddings team have come out with a new book, called The Redemption of Althalus. I am currently reading it, and it has nothing to do with the Belgariad or the Elenium. I don't know whether it'll be a stand-alone or a series, but nothing on the outside marks it for a series.

So far, IMHO, it's not their best work. It's a bit overly tongue-in-cheek, but that may just be because (so far anyway) it's all from the point of view of a theif whose whole life so far is pretty 'tongue-in-cheek' itself!

Just thought I'd ask if you know of it!

I thought I saw a new Eddings book in the store the other day, but I was in quite a hurry so I didn't take a look at it. I had already forgotten again, but now that you mention it...
I will probably go and buy it. If nothing else to keep my collection up to date smiley - winkeye

Indeed - keeping one's collection up to date is an important endeavour! And expensive! It's the reason I usually borrow books from the library, because when I start buying a series of books, I want to have the whole series! Have you read Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series? That's one of the ones I intend to own all of, if possible.

The book, Redemption of Althalus, has gotten quite a bit better, though it's no less cheeky, and it's SOOO typically Eddings! If I didn't know the author's name from the cover of the book, I'd have guessed it by now! The familiar "neighbour" title, and the all-important self-superior all-powerful female... it's all there!

I've *got* all the Terry Goodkind books. They're brilliant. They have the easy-to-read Eddings style mixed up with the sometimes-quite-hard-to-follow Robert Jordan plots. Very good smiley - smiley

That's what makes Eddings' books so accessible to lots of readers. And besides...why change a winning formula if people still like it

Mm, true enough, at that, but... well, just read it. If you don't see what I mean, then it's all good. And if you do see it, well... then you'll see what I mean!

It's a good book in that it keeps me wanting to know what happens to the characters, right enough, so I guess that's the really important thing. I'd tell you why I think these things, give you a whole little analysis, but I don't want to ruin it for you! It's still a good book after all! Do tell me what you think though, when you have read it, or some of it.
