Wonderful summary! It really is great to reminisce.
Have you read the Eliad and the... the other? The word "Talmudi" comes to mind, but I'm not sure that's correct - I've been studying Judaic literature lately...

The Elenium and the Tamuli? Yes, I have read those as well. Since I have been quite busy lately, I haven't had the time to write the follow-up to this one, but I will get on it as soon as possible
I'm glad you like it. I was worried that I was giving away too much of the plot, so I actually had to rewrite the entire intro

Oh I don't know - I guess it depends on your objective... Are you writing the synopsis for those who've read it to remember, or for those who haven't read it and may want to? Or both? Because I was reading as one who has read (obviously) and I thought it was great to trigger those forgotten details.

At first, I was writing it as an introduction to the works of Eddings, but then I realized I had already gave away too much for that. I then decided that it would be easier to rewrite the intro, to let it be more of a memory for those who already read it. I think it worked out pretty well.
I suppose I might as well put it up in the Peer Review now. It should be almost right now. Do you think it needs anything else?

Well, it seems to do the job for me, but here are some suggestions for clarification and/or elaboration, parts where i got a little mixed up trying to remember...
- the function of the Destinies/Prophecies.
- the importance of the Rivan history (can't remember if it's explained in any depth in the first book)
- Belgarath's deeper relationship than just enemy, with respect to Torak and his disciples
- the whole thing between Polgara and Torak needs more explanation I think - the fact that it was prophesied, and that Torak's will is too strong for any normal person to resist is what makes it remarkable that she did resist, because it's obvious she never loved him.
Question - this summary, with relation to the books, where does it end? Is it to the end of Pawn? Hey, if you want to do a little marketing for Mr. Eddings, (if you liked the series) you could even add the name of the other series ;p

Thank you ever so much . That's exactly the kind of feedback I was hoping for . Although I didn't quite get the one about Belgarath. What did you mean by that one?

Kumetanzuka the capricious Posted Oct 4, 2000
delighted to be of help - did i mention that i'm one of the assistant copy-editors of my university's weekly paper? i wonder if i'm one of those strange crazies who was born to edit... too full of my own advice?
anyway, what i meant was the fact that, with respect to Torak, at one time, Belgarath respected him, even if it was pretty much a hate-patronage relationship from the beginning. And as for Zedar, Ctuchik, and... uh... t'other one, they were brothers of Garath too, and they loved each other as much as ever Kira and Tira and Din loved each other. They were all sons of Aldur, and the weaker three were won over to Torak because they wanted to be on the 'winning' side or whatever.
In short, Belgarath's once-love for his brothers plagues him, and has mutated to hate, but the fact that it was once love is significant, especially in the burying of Zedar in solid bedrock. (i think that comes later)

oops - i think i goofed a little there... i think it was ONLY Zedar who was a son of Aldur, not Ctuchik or Urvon... don't have the books, can't check!

Kheldar (Don't hate the media, Become the media) Posted Oct 5, 2000
Aha. Now I see. I think I can do a few things with that in the story, but I have to think on it.
You're right about Zedar. He was the only renegade of the three

Hey - good to hear from you again!
I read the entry, and it is indeed much clearer. That's just the first book of the Belgariad, right? Or wait... now I'm not sure... If it were just the first book, you'd want to state that. But if it tells the plot of the entire first series, then it's fine as it is. Some grammatical/stylistic things one might want to catch, but I'm sure those would be edited out if you just submitted the article.... I've never tried submitting an article so I don't know...

That's exactly how it works. I tell them I wrote an article in the Peer Review page, a few people go and have a look at it, and if they think it's worthy, it goes into the editorial process. And for someone from Holland, there aren't even that many grammar/style errors

Kumetanzuka the capricious Posted Nov 17, 2000
so true! well, I think it's worthy of being worthy... if my opinion counts... maybe i should check out this peer review thingy... for some wierd twisted reason, i love to edit stuff.
so *eager... almost maniacal grin* when's the next segment coming out!!!!
kidding
but really...

Kheldar (Don't hate the media, Become the media) Posted Nov 20, 2000
I will start on that one soon. I don't think it will be approved though. I asked for feedback on the article, and they said it's too focused on the story. When I want it accepted, I should write about the world, the characters and their development. You know, more like an informative entry about the style of the book and stuff like that. I had to agree on that. However, I don't have the time to do such an extended entry, so I think I'll just stick to this, and write another about the Mallorean

Kumetanzuka the capricious Posted Nov 20, 2000
makes sense i suppose. but that requires a little more research, for which the time is not always available. sad, but true

Kheldar (Don't hate the media, Become the media) Posted Nov 21, 2000
Which is exactly why I won't get into that any time soon. RL is quite busy at the moment, so even if I did feel like it, I just won't be able to. But I promised you part two of the story, so I will write that anyway
looking forward to the next...
Kumetanzuka the capricious Posted Nov 21, 2000
aww thanks! But don't put yourself out for me - just because my life is currently a vaccuum during which i have time to be online ALL THE TIME since school is not running right now.... but don't get me started.
Point is, soon enough, my RL will start to get pretty busy - i suspect almost unbearable pitches...

Kheldar (Don't hate the media, Become the media) Posted Nov 28, 2000
Arrggghhh...always RL again!! Which is exactly why I haven't been online for the past few days. I was in London IRL, meeting up with h2g2-researchers
And I will write that second story. I said I would, so I will. If nothing else, it's because it will improve my writing skills in the English language . Besides, I want to read it as well
looking forward to the next...
Kumetanzuka the capricious Posted Nov 30, 2000
Well, then as I said, I look forward to reading it.
Hey, I know you said you're busy with RL, but I just thought I'd ask anyway. Have you visited the Terran Embassy to H2G2?
http://www.h2g2.com/A473898
We are trying to build an organization, well, an Embassy, where people from out-of-town can feel a little at home. Since the primary language of the guide is English, but not all Terrans speak English, we're trying to get any and all languages functioning within the Embassy. We could use help, if you're interested. Let me know, whether or not.

I visited it one or two weeks ago. I wasn't quite sure I got the meaning of it, so I decided not to do anything with it at that time. But please enlighten me, what's it all about? What does it do and how? You know, the default questions
