A brand new piece about an old phenomenon making a huge comeback as it capitalizes on the unemployed who are desperate to find fulltime employement: headhunters who charge the job-seeker a fee of up to several thousand Euro - and that's upfront...Meet the new headhunters.
This piece is brand new, never been published anywhere before. Written for BBC.

This was interesting - thanks for writing it.
It slightly falls between two stools here. Writing for the edited guide, I suspect you will need a slightly more 'neutral' style.
Alternatively, more opinion piece type work can go into the AWW.
Anyway, it's a good warning - never pay money for any type of service like this - it is almost certainly a scam, as you say.

Hi Sprout ~ so what happens now? I appreciate your advice and thanks for liking the piece. I do see what you are saying, though i tried to remain neutral, it is obviously a scam and i felt i was pretty easy on them, but wanted to do a sort of "buyer beware" thing and i know that my views aren't those of the BBC because it says so, etc. so i thought it would perhaps be okay.
that said, you noted another division. Do i resubmit, or will someone pop on here and let me know? i am a newbie, so i am learning. i've read the rules and copyright etc andprinted them out but still have questions that i'm sure to all seem obvious, but to a newbie such as i, are important.
can you advise on next steps, or do i just leave here?
i'm so glad you enjoyed this. i'm working on a new piece about two books a sort of "must read" before you go to Paris, double book review that would work for EG i think. So hard at work on that...
nice to meet you as well --
cheers,
sadi
well, do let me know, and thank you thank you thank you

Hi Sadi
This does need a little more 'neutralising' if you want it to go into the Edited Guide. EG entries all have to follow the <./>writing-guidelines</.>. You're welcome to neutralise it and try to get it into the EG, in which case it stays in this forum, PeerReview. If you don't want to change the general tone, though, it needs to go somewhere else. Writing-Alternative and <./>ThePost</.> are good options to check out. But don't feel obliged to move fora. If you want to make this into an EG piece, you've come to the right place!
Thanks for willing to be cooperative and learn. So many people aren't. You're doing fine!

Hiya SRP! Glad to see the warning about the ... (well, I'd have used much harsher euphamisms for what these people represeent than you did).
Neutralizing simply means taking out references to self, for the most part. For example, there is no reason to sign it at the bottom. Your researcher name will be captured in the informational box attached to the piece, under 'researcher'.
An advantage to this is that if you change your researcher name, I believe the box will change to reflect it.

hiya and thanks so much for the helpful and very kind words ~~
i would love for this to go into the EG, so, given that.... I will rework it and take out self references and make the tone more "neutral" or try to anyway.
question: do i then resubmit it? How does that part work - i was not clear on that, even after reading rules and regs etc. ~~ so i depend on your for advice re that and also, what would i title it? Same title w/ "edit" at the end, or ... well, can you let me know.
Meanwhile, i will re-work the piece with the hope that you can find a place for it in the EG. It sounds promising enough for me to try harder and harder to work on this and try to get it as close to perfect for you as posible. I'll make any changes you see fit, and never feel that you have to hold back with me (though i doubt you would, i felt it should be said). I"ve been an editor and been edited my whole life, so been on both sides.
Everyone needs a good editor ~ including an editor herself (c'est moi). So, let me get to work, and if you could, please post here about how to submit the edited/revised version or if it is simply the same process as before with Edit after the title.
Thanks all ~ i am ever grateful
off i go to work on the piece
sade (everyone calls me sade instead of sadie or sadi. nickname my whole life... actual name is Sarah, but in Scotland, somehow that has always changed to Sadie ~ at least in my family and in any books i read as well. Odd eh. I respond to any of the above ~ sarah, sadi sadie, sade, etc. )
Thanks, all and i'll look for your advice on resubmitting the edited version, which you should expect by later today or perhaps late tomorrow since i have an appt. early tomorrow.

Hi again, Sadi (Sarah).
I've given this piece a little more thought, and believe that the title unduly indicts the honest headhunters as well as the scam artists. Perhaps you could find a title that better reflects the point of the entry, that the unethical con artists have found fertile ground in the faux head-hunting business?

One thing you haven't talked about is geographical details...
Just where is this scam taking place?

FordsTowel Posted Jun 21, 2005
Not to worry about resubmitting. As long as you are editing it, it will keep popping up to the top of the Peer Review list.
Once you've finished (or presume you have), just mention that you're done in this thread. The sub-editors keep scanning for pieces that fit the guidelines that are ready for final editing.
They take care of it all. They will even, if it becomes a 'front page' piece, have a graphic designed or chosen for it.
Good Luck!

HI Fords:
Got it ~~ i understand all the messages and advice and i cannot thank you all enough for the very excellent advice you have given. On that note, let me get to making some changes...
The geographical area is the United States, pretty much everywhere at the moment, and it seems to be focused around certain industries.
Let me make those changes under the Edit functiona nd the title change and i will post here as soon as i have done that and then everyone can decide what they think ~~ thanks for all of the advice.
I'm very grateful and will get to work right away on this and hopeful have in before the end of the day.
Cheers ~~ and many, many thanks once again

Ok, here's the deal: your entry stays in Peer Review and you keep improving it until a Scout (one of our h2g2 volunteers) comes along and recommends it as a good entry for the Edited Guide. If that recommendation is approved by the Editors, then the entry is sent off to a <./>SubEditor</.>, who edits the entry for grammar and correct h2g2 format. Then, once the entry is finally approved by the Editors, it can appear on h2g2's <./>FrontPage</.> as a part of the Edited Guide.
Before you do anything else, I would strongly recommend reading the following links to make sure you understand what's going on:
<./>DontPanic-Editing</.>
Subeditors-Process
And, of course, never forget the <./>writing-guidelines</.>.

greetings all,
i'll be off mostly for the weekend, but if you have a chance to review and any ideas, let me know.
I have revised this per all recommendations and am working also on my changes for my review of The Forgotten per some recommendations over there.
Let me know what you all think of this one when you can... this is a big story here and thought it would be good given all the people job hunting right now and i had first hand experience w/ this so it struck me as appropriate, but i'd be interested in all...
cheers everyone...
