h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Okay, I've taken bits from J's draft and added more to the UnderGuide Miners Homepage I'm working on. See what you make of it. A4188819

I also had some thoughts about 'motivation'. Edited Guide Scouts and Sub-Editors get a little badge on their PS. UnderGuide Volunteers get one too, but is that enough? Should we offer to give them some kind of little picture to identify them as either Miner, Polisher or Editor? Something to make them feel good. I know many of the other communities can get badges such as the Doctor Who Fans and Monty Pythonists - why not Miners and Polishers too. So then they get Offical recognition from h2g2 with the standard UnderGuide Volunteeer badge, but also a little blob to let people know exactly what they do for the UNderGuide. A kind of Self promotion too. "ooo, they've got a little badge, wonder how I can get one of those?"

That way you could have a little hard hat and light superimposed over the purple h2g2 logo for a Miner (maybe) and a little sparkly gem superimposed over the same logo for a Polisher (maybe) I'm sure the community artits would get involved.

Perhaps some sort of promotion needs to be integrated with The Post once we've sorted everything out to the more accessible standard that the h2g2 Eds have hinted at too.

Oh, I had another idea. How abouts renaming the Miners Account Page to "What's Coming up in the UnderGuide" and link it properly to the UnderGuide HQ and Miner's/Polishers HomePages? That way it gives all Polishers and Miners a base to work from and also gives other h2g2 Researchers a heads up on what's coming to the Front Page, just like the "What's Coming up in the EG" Page. I know it's following EG form, but if it works, hey why not abuse it?

hmm, I think we should leave the archives alone for now, but shall we try and delete all the Entry's that are not needed? Or update the Entry to something that IS needed. I don't see the point of creating a new A number when we can just use that number to create something new, like the Tutorial Page for Polishers, or a Help Page for Miners. For example, just change one of the Draft Entry's into something new. Saves on creating new links and getting lost in the corridors of the UnderGuide Editing Office...

Recycling is a good idea. It keeps the conversations accessible too.

I thinks one Help Page for each branch of UnderGuide Volunteer.

Miners should get this one A3561860 which will of course be updated and improved

Polishers will get the one J. is working on (I think he is anyway).

Yes? That way instead of 5 pages each for Polishers and MIners there's two, but one of those will only actually be used by Researchers that take on mining/polishing duties.

I think I'm going a bit bananas, there may be a gas leak down here...

Oh, and I've sort of put a rough guide for Polishing together too, using what has already been written on the subject. But more on that another time, I've got to do some other work now
