This article perfectly captures Mussorsky's music which itself perfectly describes Hartman's paintings. I remember taking "Music appreciation" in the 8th grade (second form) at school, a contradiction in terms if you have ever taken a school course thus named. This was the only piece of music that really struck a chord within me, as it was so pictorial and descriptive.

Fantastic entry!

sorry I didn't notice this posting before...smiley - smiley

Thanks Tashalls smiley - smiley I don't completely agree about music appreciation. But I think something thats crucial for it is to have a class of people who really want to be there, and an accessible teacher who really loves his/her subject... while my music history lessons weren't just about music appreciation, what I learned in them has made me enjoy a lot of music more....smiley - smiley

I didn't mean to imply music appreciation is an oxymoron itself, just that in my experience a school class usually lacked the elements of either an interested class or a passionate teacher. For just one heavenly year, I had both smiley - smiley This was one of the pieces the teacher taught, and the class was spellbound!
