Read the article - a good, detailed explanation of the "pictures" painted by the music. I'd like to recommend it.

I liked the entry, too. It was well-written and the right length for the subject. It's a great piece of music.

John the gardener says, "Free Tibet!"

Brava! Another winner, soon to join a growing list of entertaining and informative Entries by the same author. I hope the series continues.smiley - smiley

A minor point: It may be helpful to say where one is likely to have encountered 'The New Statesman'; I don't think I've seen it.

Tashalls, Muse of Flights of Fancy (Losing Weight at A858170)

I loved this one - it perfectly captured the moods of the different sections of this piece, while adding other interesting points that I had not known before.

I would definitely recommend this to be part of the edited guide.

Gnomon - time to move on

This is a good entry. There is one thing in it I disagree with. The part of Schmuyle in Ravel's orchestration is not played by a Soprano Saxophone. It is played by muted trumpets. There is a saxophone elsewhere in the work: The Old Castle uses an Alto Saxophone for the Troubadour's song.

Jeremy (trying to find his way back to dinner)

This is a great Entry. smiley - ok

I really enjoyed reading about a piece of music that is so familiar to me. I'd love to see it in the Edited Guide, and if it makes its way there, I hope it will not be one of the 'most neglected Entries', as what happened to Sergej Prokofiev.
