'Little water' is probably the literal translation of the native language expression for a very potent drink. Many languages refer to their local alcoholic beverage as "aqua vita", the water of life.
"Little water" strikes me as a particulary ironic variation but I'm not sufficiently cunning as a linguist to narrow it down.
Best-guess is it's some obscure semi-tropical aboriginal dialect if not a central American Spanish thing for a mescal type potion.
*hope we don't get into that old argument about 'vod-ka' and 'wis-ky' not coming from the same linguistic root*

Sorry for the delay - I gotta sleep sometime...
the other omylouse pretty much wins it: 'voda' is water in Russian, and 'vodka' is a diminutive of it (i.e. little water) in reference to its water-like clarity and the smaller quantities it tends to be served up in.

WOOHOOO!!!!! i rock!

only reason i guessd that tho was coz spent 2 weeks in ukraine during summer & they called vodka 'russian water' & 'water without bubbles' (all water there was fizzy which i hate!)
does this mean i gotta think of d next question now? (soz, new 2 this place) if so i'll try 2 think up a goodun bit later or 2morrow.

Almost all of them.
(the average is slightly below 2 due to more people missing hands than having extra ones blah blah blah)
