I have just looked at more than 20 Chinese zodiac web-sites, each and everyone of them used the word Rooster, in this instance I beleive that is the correct word to use. I knew what a rooster was, I'm sure most Researchers, British or otherwise know what a rooster is.

Does anyone else think it necessary to include "(also known as Cockerel)" in the Rooster section?

I mentioned in post #14 that I would make the chinses new year and the effect of birthdays in Jan and Feb clearer, I've been busy in RL since then.

Nope, I think you should leave it as Rooster me dear. As I said, as far as I can tell, all anglicised literature uses the word Rooster I think it's all pretty funky-dory now, the bit about the elements and yin/yang is just enough to refer to them and whet the appetite without it being bogged down with too much description. To be honest you could go nuts and add numerology and zen knows what else, but it'd be going overboard
Shouldn't be long before this one's ripe for picking I'd imagine.

Actually, I don't think that my last post required a response. I agree that you should leave the elements-stuff out of the Entry - it would make it too long and complicated. And there is probably nobody else who would think the math was fun either.

This is now officially off topic but your comment about copyright issues raised a question for me. The table that I referred to is a list of dates and zodiac signs. The underlying data is derived from the rules of the Chinese calendar and Chinese astrology - wouldn't this stuff be in the public domain? As long as you didn't do a cut and paste job but 'copied'/'typed' the data into a new table with a different format?

Just want to make sure I understand the rules. Thanks

Hmmmm I'm still learning and trying to understand the copyright 'stuff' myself. I think copying the info into a table with a different format would be ok. (not that I want to do that ) And if I'm wrong, someone will be along soon to say so.

I can't see how there would be copyright issues with a table of something like the chinese zodiac, so long as, like you say, you write it out yourself and don't copy/paste from somewhere else.

This is interesting and amusing, but it needs a lot of tidying. The biggest problem is that you use bits of sentences, such as "As well as being articulate". You should always make each sentence able to stand on its own. I'll get to each of these in turn.

Choice of words:

"Thus, those born in late January to early February may find their birth year is different between the Western New Year and the Chinese New Year."
-- it is not at all clear what this means. Can you think of some way to rephrase it?

"The Gods decreed that a race across a river would take place, and the order of animals in the cycle would be set on where the animals came in the race. The animal which came first, would be the first, right down to the last animal, being last in the cycle."

This is rather wordy and repetitive. I'd just say:

"The gods decreed that the animals would race across a river, and that their position in the cycle would be set by their place in the race."


Typos, grammar, punctuation etc:
