Hi Warlie
Sounds like youve been having fun with the parts catalogues over the years. Glad an old A48 is stilll in service, my own has been back to Yorkshire a few times but it refuses to die. Appart from being a bit noisier than most moder amps it still sounds fantastic.
As to the Rock - why not build your own? The principle and philosophy behind the rock is fairly simple. With a bit of time and not too much input from a friendly engineering company you should be able to get a very good deck built - don't try to get too radical, plagarism is very acceptable whenthe original is something that has stood the test of time (never saw the attraction of the LP12 - and Linn speakers were, and still are, garbage) Or - alternately - get hold of an old garrad and build a plinth - very tweekable deck with a good basic sound which can go as high as you want to take it.
Have fun
