Entry: Kath and Kim - The TV Series - A4112830 Author: DrMatt - U739774 This is a rescue from the Flea Market - a very (very) old Entry. I've updated it up to the end of season 3 (which is good, as there may not be a season 4) and made it a bit more outsider-friendly. The original PR thread is here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/F124056?thread=275752 It's like dayja view all over again! Matt

Hi Matt, I think this should get in. A few thoughts for your consideration/rejection:
First para:
Change "centralises"; I do not think it means what you think it means. Also I don't know that you need the characters' surnames here when they're mentioned below anyway.
Second para:
Mention that the creators also play the main parts.
Third para:
I think "As well some classic situation-comedy hijinks, escapades and misunderstandings, expertly timed to thirty minutes..." would read better. Also, make it clear that "Look at moy" is a catchphrase.
The Characters:
I'd cut "nee Day" from Kim's name.
Last sentence about Sharon:
"Kim calls Sharon 'one of..." Or at least use "Sharon is..."; the apostrophe is a little too informal.
Kel:
Second sentence needs changing, maybe splitting. It reads as if Kel *believes* he has been left at the altar four times, etc.
I'm not sure about the description of Brett. He hasn't exactly shown total devotion to Kim, being often more interested in his dog.
--------------
I should have mentioned this before, but I wrote a review of the show at http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/plain/A4059290. Feel free to copy any of it (or none of it) you like. It's still on the BBC, so there shouldn't be any copyright issues.

Changes made. Sorry about the centralises bit, it was a hangover from the old entry.
Brett does make up with Kim later in the first series, and becomes a long-suffering hen-pecked husband once again. By the way, presumably I can say 'bitch' in this entry? It was in the original, and it doesn't seem to have caused any problems judging by the old PR thread. Of course, if there are problems, I'll just remove it.

Groit stuff!
Kel uses a dictaphone in the first two episodes to record notes to himself about ideas for a new sausage and about wedding vows. Is the dictaphone a running theme - possibly worth mentioning it if so.
I don't see a problem with using the word 'bitch' in context.

And I meant to say before, I like the footnote and link about Kylie. I'm told she made a record or two, but it's for her part in Neighbours that we remember her.
The word "bitch" seems to have survived without being modded out on the forums, so I guess it's okay.

This Entry is noice, it's diffrint, it's un-ewe-shool. It'd be even noicer if somebody would read it!
Look at moiye, scouts, look at moiye!
Umm... Consider this bumped.

This is great. I don't know how those awful accents read if you haven't seen the show - but it doesn't matter they read as badly as they sound.
Out of interest, does anyone know why Magda S. is always credited as a guest never as part of the core cast?

Perhaps second-best friends only get a guest credit.
I don't know if you want more work, Dr, but I think you could say something about the general feel and style of the series. The lack of a laughter track and the hand-held camera zooming this way and that really help make the show what it is. Or are all Australian comedies like that?
How big is Kath and Kim in Australia? Over here it's got critics writing nice things about it and quite a good audience, but hasn't completely taken off (that's just my impression, I may be contradicted).
I think you've done well with the descriptions of the seasons. Often that sort of thing comes out much too dry when described, but you've got me really curious about the upcoming (to Britons) wedding episode.

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho Posted Jun 25, 2005
It's been shown in the US too It struck me as a p!ss-take of Neighbours in some respects.
Was there a mention of badoobadas in the enytry anywhere?

I've added some comments on the popularity of the series and a couple of stylistic things as suggested. No, K&K is really popular in Australia, and to a lesser extent in New Zealand. There were ads on the back of buses here with a big picture of Kim saying "Honk if you think I'm a hornbag."
I'd love to shoehorn some more of the jokes in there, but I think at the moment the Entry treads the line between explaining it for a newcomer and satisfying those who want injokes.
And a parody of Neighbours? You should have seen Shark Bay (any Aussies or Kiwis remember Shark Bay? No? I'll just be over here...)

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.
If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.
