Firstly Uxbridge *has* an 'x' in it so you can remove all that rubbish about Croxley being unique in it's 'x'ness
Secondly Uxbridge is an anagram of 'big durex' and for that fact alone should be mentioned in the guide.
A *friend* asked me to include this
A now-defunct Underground scam used by myself for many years ran like this (before the £10 fine days);
Say you wanted to travel into London on a Friday and back on a Saturday. You couldn't buy a travelcard and had to buy 2 expensive single tickets. Unless... you didn't buy a ticket, got to your destination, told the inspector in the little box that you needed to get a travelcard but couldn't buy one because ~insert favorite excuse here~. Now, the man in the box couldn't issue returns or travelcards but was reasonable so would charge you the difference in price between a single and a travelcard. This was sometimes as little as 40p. You would be told to buy another single when you needed to get back. Of course you wern't going back until the next day and would repeat the same scam.

I think a warning that Camden Town tube station shuts on a Saturday afternoon would be nice. You can't get a train out of Camden after 1.30, if you want to leave you have to walk to to the next station. Which can lead to all sorts of complications like stopping in a pub on the way and totally forgetting that you were on your way home. And getting rather too drunk at 4pm.
Also if people object to me reading over their shoulder I just stick my head in their armpit and read under their shoulder. They hate that much more.

Did you know that you can cycle all the way from Watford Station (on the Met line) to Camden along the Grand Union Canal. I did it 3 weeks ago. It takes about 3 1/2 hours. It's quite pleasant.

I'm not really here Posted Aug 19, 2000
I think that's a lie, it wouldn't be pleasant at all.
Next time you go to Camden tell me! I'm sure my last visit to Camden was about 3 weeks ago.

Well, it was a fib. It would have been more pleasant if I'd been used to sitting on a bike saddle for 3 1/2 hours and if we'd started out earlier and got to Camden while it was still lively. At least it's flat all the way, no hills to go up (water doesn't like flowing up hill) but it was still a good way to spend a saturday even if I was walking like John Wayne after.

But it must have been uphill on the way back?

U128068 Posted Aug 19, 2000
Oh, you assumed that I cycled back too. Ha, that would have been the train from baker street. You think I'm going to cycle for 7 hours. Are you mad?

Yes.
(Slightly OT - Have you got ICQ?)

U128068 Posted Aug 19, 2000
Again, you appear to be psychic. I've never thought about getting ICQ until about 1 1/2 hours ago when I followd a link to icq.com
I didn't download and register, but I will.

Hope I didn't scare you this time.

I'm used to it now, but I will be checking this machine for Trojan programs to check that you're not cheating.

I wouldn't do that! I don't need to.
Wouldn't have helped me with your smell anyway.
That's going to look weird if anyone else reads this tomorrow.

Sorry, Balders. We did manage to stay on topic for the first 3 whicl all contain pertinant infomrmation, the drift after that was my fault and I apologise.
Another Undergroung relevant tid bit of information is that people are sometimes refered to as being "Daganham East" i.e. 4 stops past Barking (as in Barking Mad - meaning mad as a rabid dog)

Also, Daganham is sometimes refered to as "Nam" like Vietnam, it too is a bit of a warzone.

Also, Hammersmith is the only station where you have to leave the station and cross a road to change trains. Even though they knocked down the old Clarenden Hotel Ballroom (home of the Klub Foot, the best Psychobilly Venue in London) to make a new pedestrian walkway. It's not just any road either, it's Hammersmith Broadway.
